Why Must I Type "Index" in Search

I uploaded some files, text and photos in my website but not quite finished
yet.
when i went to see my unfinished site on line, it said that "I did not move
in yet"
I have a home site with ATT.
I typed [nameofsite].home.att.net which did not find my index page/home
page. I tried [nameofsite].home.att.net/index - and that brought me to the
site.
Why do I now have to type "Index" at the end of my site address?
Your help is once again, appreciated.

2 possibilites (maybe more)

You have your INDEX.htm page in a folder named INDEX.. when it should be in the "Root" of the web
OR, you inadvertantly left the ".htm" off the file in the root web
The tree should look like this (folders view): (|=verticle line),highlight(blue)"yoursite.att.com"

| | (subfolder icon)
|(subfolder icon) | (subfolder icon)
|(subfolder icon) | (subfolder icon)
|(subfolder icon) | (subfolder icon)
| (file)index.htm (or .html)

You can "drag and drop" the index.htm file over to the "root" (yoursite.att.com).. and that will
place it in the root web. FP should automatically change any background, hyperlinks, etc..

I hate it when the formatting get's changed and it doesn't look like what I typed...
Maybe this will help- make sure your INDEX.HTM page is in the root directory... NOT a folder.
