Are you saying the title bar reads something like: <FileName>1:2 and
<FileName> 2:2? What happens if you click the Close (x) button (not
File/Close) on one of the windows?

Yes sir! When close one the other file remains intact/open. So now how can I
fix this issue please?

What you are seeing is a duplicate window has been opened for the file. This
is easily accomplished by using the New Window command. If you have two
copies and close one then you should have a single copy only. Is that not
what you want? Or are you saying it always opens with two copies even if you
close a copy prior to saving?

To the extent that I have two windows opened while opening the single file
(only one file does this, it doesn't happen with any other excel files). when
I close any one of the two, the remaining can be worked on. e.g. if the file
name is xyz. when I open, two windows of the same file opens with names "xyz"
and "xyz1".

Hmmm....it shouldn't be happening each time you open the file, provided you
saved it viewing the single window. What is the file extension? If it is
*.xlw then you are opening a Workspace file. A workspace file saves the
current window settings, such as which files are open - it doesn't include
the actual files. If that's the case then the workspace file could include
the second window (copy) if that was part of the view when the workspace
file was saved.

Another possibility is a macro is running when you open the file causing the
copy to display. To verify this, hold Shift down while you are opening the
workbook to prevent macros from running.
