I have a trial edition of office,I need to upgrade by the end of Sept.I'm
just wondering why there is such a difference in price between the
student/teacher edition to the stanard edition upgrade when they appear to
both have the same contents?

Mmm, because you have to be (or are at least supposed to be) a student or
teacher to purchase that version? Also, I think Student and Teacher Edition
cannot be upgraded.

If they're the same contents and you have a qualifying product, I'd probably
go for the Standard Edition upgrade.

Same logic as in the old days with cigarettes: hand out free or cheap
packs to nonsmokers, charge high prices to adicts. Microsoft is trying
to adict students to Office in order to entrench Office as necessary
software in their future employers' businesses.

In addition, when the next version of Office comes out (Office 2006) users
of the Student edition will not be able to purchase just the upgrade kit but
will need the full version. But you may never need another version - or at
least you may not need one for many years; some people still use Office 95.
best of luck
