Why will it not take my product key

any chance u confused an O for a Q or vice versa? or an 8 for a B ?

If it's on the computer, are you sure it's the *Office* key and not the
*Windows* key? Generally the Office key is stuck on a CD sleeve or
documentation, not the tower.

That's most likely the Windows XP key.
The Office key should be with the CD.
