Why would a pivot table lose its character?

I have been using a Pivot table to accumulate data. I opened the file and
input my data. I went to my Pivot summary and it wouldn't allow me to
"refresh my data". In other words, the PT command to refresh my data was
"greyed out".

Help!!!

Is the sheet which contains your pivot table protected perchance?

If so Unprotect it.
