Why's there no basic spell-check provided in MS Word 07?

Bought the Student and Home edition of MS Office 2007. Word's great except
there's no spell-check. Get an error message saying the English (US) proofing
tools cannot be found. Re-installed /configured MS Office 2007, and still no
joy. How do I get Spell check to work?

Well there definitely is a full set of proofing tools with Office. I suggest
that you run Setup, Advanced options and check that everything has been
installed. But first make sure that everything on your installation (such as
Keyboard/Region Settings) have been correctly set for your local language.

Hi G.R.,

To add to Terry's reply, if this was an upgrade over an older version check to see if the Proofing Tools are listed as 'disabled' in
Office Button=>Word Options=>Add-Ins

Also check for the 'abc+checkmark' to see what proofing languages Word thinks are installed in
Review Tab=>Proofing Group=>Set Language button
