WIERD Excel Problem

BK

Hi ALL

I have this user that says when she opens Excel the only options she
has is to go into File or View. She has no Tools, Help, etc. She has
reinstalled Excel to no avail. Has anyone ever seen or heard of this??

Thanks

Try...

Tools|Customize|toolbars tab
select worksheet menu bar
click reset

Oops.

She can get to it via View|toolbars|customize, too.

If that doesn't work, you can have her reset all her toolbars.

close excel
windows search
search for *.xlb
(in hidden folders for hidden files, too)

Rename all the *.xlb files you find to *.xlbOLD

Then restart excel and see if that helps.

If it does, then rebuild any customized changes to the toolbar at your
convenience.

If it doesn't, then close excel and rename all those *.xlbOLD back to *.xlb.

Reinstall does not work. She totally removed all of Office and then
reinstalled it all.

I have never heard of this, but my buddy has and he suggests rather than
going in and fixing file extensions, you are likely better off to save your
files to disc and then reformat the hard drive and install all of your
programs again. This might take you an afternoon, but it may save you time in
the long run and clean viruses that may be corrupting your file extensions.

I think I'd try some of those other suggestions before formatting my harddisk.

Hi """"BK"""""",
Use right-click on the toolbars then choose customize then
you can follow Dave Peterson's directions.

If you have exited Excel it will not do you any good to retrieve the .xlb file
for what you are asking, unless there is an older version that got lost *and*
is acceptable. Next time the toolbars are messed up look at
http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel/toolbars.htm#emergency
which must be done as soon as the toolbars are messed up and without
exiting from Excel.

The toolbars file is one of the files you shoud be backing up
http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel/backup.htm
