Will Dreamweaver break FrontPage extensions

Hi,

As an early preparation, we are going to test using Dreamweaver for editing
and managing our FrontPage site (Windows 2003 server with FP extensions
installed).

My question is, does Dreamweaver (2004 MX) compatible with FrontPage
extension under its FTP mode for remote site editing?

We checked with our ISP and the answer is Yes, but we wish to consult here
as well just to be sure.

Many thanks in advance.

NO.
FTP will corrupt the FrontPage extensions.
Any page with FP webbot components may also fail if edited with any
editor other than FrontPage.
If the "Dreamweaver" pages are in a subweb, and you never need to use
FrontPage with them, there should be no problems.
Any reputable host will know that.

So, the answer is YES, unless the DW pages are in a subweb, but this doesn't
sound like that case, right?

sounds like a conditional maybe :)

I hate those. Especially those that say - yes, or maybe no, depending on
the answer.

Hi,

Thanks for the kind replies from all of you.

So I guess the answer is --- Yes?

I am deeply troubled by the discontinue of FrontPage although I knew that it
is not a perfect tool and MS will continue to support for many years, and I
sincerely believe this decision will be one of the biggest mistakes that MS
has ever made.

I have tried Visual Web Developer Express 2005, and it has no comparison to
FP - slow, consistently hang, and won't even change pages to Design view
unless some non-fatal HTML errors have been corrected.

I also tried Express edition of Graphic Designer and Interactive Graphic
Designer, but I don't think those are for the same purpose.

So I am looking for a new tool to replace FP as an early preparations since
I don't wish to use any obsolete tools.

And Dreameweaver is the closest one but it will break FP extensions.

Well, seems MS does not leave any options.

Thanks for your kind reply.

Microsoft will still be supporting FrontPage into 2007

Don't Panic

The replacement will be.

So did I download the wrong software?

I received the newsletter from MS and confirmed someone from here and went
to the address to download and install and try the two named programs.

But after another closer look, did I download the wrong thing and that it is
yet to have beta for download?

YES!

Expression has not been released yet!
But the Web Designer part (there will be three (3) parts) will be the
replacement so to speak for "FrontPage".

As I said Don't Panic...

Silly. I said that "I would be concerned", if I was the OP, who hosts with
them. :)
