Will FTP mess anything up?

Howdy all,

Using FP2002 (or any FP), already published web online via publish no problems. I now want to upload something else...like JAlbum pages let's say. Publish makes things a little awkward (imo) to do this. Would anything nasty happen if I upload my JAlbum pages to my existing web?

I've imported the JAlbum pages into the local web, but I have to manually go in and make url changes to all the pages. I was thinking it may be easier to just FTP it?

I wanted an opinion before experimenting...too many images to upload and screwup :-(

Thoughts?

TIA,

Rob

i've been this NG for several years and the consensus is don't mix the two
my personal experience says don't mix the two
i use JAlbum but just link it from the FP web
hope this helps

bill
p.s the jalbum could be at angelfire.com if online diskspace is an issue

Use FrontPage. I don't understand what is "awkward" about publishing. There
is no difference in file types with regards to publishing.

Doesn't FP 'adjust' the url's when publishing? It may not be an issue...I guess I could try it first with a small album...just wanted an opinion before I mess up the online site ;-)

By awkward I meant...import JAlbum files into local web, then publish. If FP changes urls on images, page nav. within album files etc...it may change thangs??

Sorry if I'm not being clear, its still early am here.

FrontPage will change any hyperlinks in HTML documents which point to the
location of the imported files, if any changes are needed. Files imported
into a FrontPage web (such as your album files) will not be changed.

Create subweb if your host allows, then FTP to that subweb.

here's what I do with things like this (folders that aren't inherently fp)
FWIW:
with FrontPage open, file/ open web, browse to the folder that j-album or
whatever app outputted. and open it as if it were a web. fp will ask if
you want to convert it. go ahead and let it.
now with the newly created web open edit it however you want, if you want,
then file/ publish web and type in your http://example.com and just add
/newsubweb so you'd be publishing to http://example.com/newsubweb
(/whateveryouwanttonameit) fp will tell you that a web doesn't exist and if
you want one created there. go ahead and let it do that. bang. it's
published and it's contained in it's own subweb so it won't slow publishing
of your other webs.

I think this is the answer! I was just messing with subweb & permissions...not quite as daunting as I thought!

Thanks...

honest. try it the way I mention below. I've done it with the outputted
folders of a number of apps it's easy and I haven't had one single problem.
