Will I lose Access 2002 if I install Office 2003

M

Mark

I just want to update the programs that are duplicated. I have a
LOT of information saved in Outlook. I'm afraid that your "uninstall
XP before loading 2003" idea would blow away that irretrievable data.
Is that right? The objective is to have the latest version of all
available office products without losing any (or the data that's saved
with it)

Your Outlook XP data should be somewhere in the \Documents and Settings\
folder on drive C (or the drive that Windows is loaded on).

This data should remain even if you uninstall Outlook XP.

The exact location will be different depending on what your log on name is
for Windows. (i.e. if you log on as "Mark" when you start Windows, then you
would find the \Mark\ folder within the \Documents and Settings\ folder).

The information you would be looking for would be in (by default):
C:\Documents and Settings\---NAME--HERE---\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook\

For you, it might be (if you use "Mark" as your Windows log on name):
C:\Documents and Settings\Mark\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook\

You'd be looking for a file called Outlook.pst
The Type column next to it may say "Office Data File" if you don't see the
..pst extension at the end. (in Details view)

Additional Office settings files can also be found in:
C:\Documents and Settings\---NAME--HERE---\Application
Data\Microsoft\Office\

For you, it might be:
C:\Documents and Settings\Mark\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\

Of course, you can always keep Outlook XP, install Office 2003 (and select
Outlook 2003 as one of the components, along with anything else), restart
your computer (if asked), run Outlook 2003 and go through the Import and
Export wizard (if it doesn't start, choose Import and Export from the File
menu).

Then once all of your Outlook XP info, accounts, messages, rules, and
what-not is in Outlook 2003, you can then remove Outlook XP.

Also, be sure to check for updates after you have installed Office 2003 at
http://officeupdate.microsoft.com/

If you wish, you can download the Office 2003 SP1 update now and run it
after you install Office 2003.

The Type column next to it may say "Office Data File" if you don't see the
.pst extension at the end.

If you wish, you can download the Office 2003 SP1 update now and run it
after you install Office 2003.

download this if you HAVE access to your Office/PowerPoint 2003 CD

Office2003SP1-kb842532-fullfile-enu.exe

Okay, thanks. I'll give it a try.
