Will large note handling get better?

R

Rudy Moore

I'm using ON2007, B2 TR.

I notice flipping between notes can get very slow as the notes and sections
get larger. First, is this due to my setup? I'm using a notebook stored on
a flash drive, but primarily running out of the cache. Of course, I have to
leave the flash drive in now whenever I hope to paste due to another issue
that's already being addressed...

Do all large notes have this problem? Will this be improved in the released
version? What strategies can be used to lower this effectively?

Also please define "large notes" Are you storing lots of images?
Printouts?

There were performance issues in B2TR with printouts (images from Send to
OneNote 2007 print driver) and I know that it has been fixed.

The flash drive certainly isn't helping matters as far as speed is
concerned. Do you see a performance inprovement if you try to
temporarily copy the section/pages in question to the local HD?

2GB Ram. Sections in the range of 2-8MB large. Few images, few drawings
(on a tablet). I do have some printouts - but have gotten away from them
since they are amazingly slow.

I usually work entirely with the cache, using the flash drive just as my
backup source. But due to the paste bug, I've been keeping the flash drive
in almost continuously.

Whether the flash drive is in there or not shouldn't matter too much for
performance. OneNote always works directly on the cache. Synching the
cash with the flash drive is an entirely different thing that is going
on in the background (it will take some performance, but only if it has
to write to the drive. Note flapping shouldn't trigger that).
