Will not print preview or print

I have just started using Access 2002, but find my print
command will not work at all. I am just working through
exercises in a book at the moment and have only created a
few very small practice databases from within the
programme. When I use the print command, I get the
message 'Microsoft Access has encountered a problem and
needs to close'. It allows me to back up the data before
closing, and (usually) only closes that data file, the
Access programme itself stays open (sometimes it crashes
as well).

Some of the exercises I was using were in Access 2000
from a CD, and I wondered if there was an incompatibility
problem, so I took them off and recreated the exercises
from within Access 2002, but the problem continued.

My printer works fine with all the other Office XP
applications I am using, but I have updated all the
printer drivers anyway, and got the latest Office XP
updates from Microsoft. I have also run 'Detect & Repair'
from within Access in case there was some problem within
the programme or installation, but no luck.

I am at my wits end with this, and can't continue
learning the programme right now. Any thoughts ?
