OK, Let's see if I correctly understand your difficulty. Within a
paragraph the lines will double space. Is that correct? There are a
couple possibilities: extra blank paragraphs (unlikely), extra
new-lines, paragraph formatting, or styles. I'll assume that you do
not press the Enter key at the end of each line of text. You only
press it at the end of a paragraph.
Let's go though this step by step. First, are the formatting marks
turned on? They're the symbols that don't actually print that tell you
where tabs, spaces, new lines, and paragraphs are. Turn them on by
clicking the show formatting button on the Home ribbon tab. It looks
like a backward P in the paragraph section. Once you can see the
formatting marks, are there any extra paragraph or new-line marks
between paragraphs (probably not, but we need to rule this out).
Next, right-click on an offending paragraph and select Paragraph from
the context menu. There are two items you should check. The Line
Spacing should be "single." And the Before and After spacing should be
zero, though this only affects the spacing between paragraphs, not
between lines.
Lastly we get to styles. Check the style of the offending paragraph.
On the Home ribbon, look at the Styles section and see which style is
selected. It probably is Normal. Next right-click on the selected
style and choose Modify. Toward the bottom of the Modify Style dialog
it lists the formats of that style. On my computer it includes "Line
spacing: Multiple 1.15 li, Space After: 10 pt." This seems to be the
default. If you need to change the style's default, select the Format
Paragraph button and change the value.
I hope that this helps and I haven't babbled on too much.
Have a good week.
