Will OEM version upgrade?

N

Nite Rider

Hi,

If I buy an OEM version of Office 2003 Professional. Will it upgrade an
Office XP version. I am the OEM so I have a right to obtain OEM copies
of software.

I have a company that currently has Office XP installed. I need to
upgrade without uninstalling.

I need to know for sure, not speculation.

Thanks,
Nite Rider

No it won't (unless Robert corrects me ;o)). OEM Office is like OEM
Windows - it will 'clean' install only. If it's a company, depending on the
number of employees. they would probably be eligible for a volume or open
licence, which would work out cheaper.

Hi Nite Rider,

There aren't any 'upgrade' OEM editions so
you don't need a qualifying product/prior Office
edition to use it, but will Office 2003
Professional OEM work as an upgrade to Office 2003
Professional Retail, yes, it should, although you'll
be taking it from a 2 machine license to a 1 (OEM)
and the OEM license requires new hardware (with the
intent being that it's installed fresh on a new PC).

Well my client is kind of wishy-washy so I won't be able to tell you
guys anything for a week or more. In the meantime I decided that I'll
take the risk and clean install office 2003 if I have to. The savings
are significant with OEM, volume licenses are more expensive. Since it
is only for about 10 computers the reinstall is just a tad annoying due
to Outlook and the activation shouldn't be an issue.

Also Outlook 2003 will recognize Outlook 2002's PST file right?

Thanks,
Nite Rider
