bought a new hp pc with win xp home edition. my office 2000 will not install.

Office2000 should work fine under WinXP Home. There's something else
wrong; if you care to post some more details someone may be able to
help.
You might have better luck posting in a more appropriate forum: this
newsgroup is specifically for Microsoft Access, one component of
Office Pro. Can you install Word or Excel, but just not Access? What
error are you getting?
