Will Outlook 2002XP not work anymore w/ free hotmail?

My Outlook program, in Office XP 2002 SBE, used to work great, but it has not
worked properly (or at all) the last few months. I can't say how long
exactly, but a few months anyway. I looked up on MSN and believe it states
(without saying so) that Outlook will no longer work unless I buy
something, either Hotmail Plus, or Outlook Live. Does anyone out there no if
this is the problem? Thanks very much!

MSN Hotmail no longer supports Distributed Authoring and Versioning (DAV)
for free user accounts. Outlook uses the DAV interface to connect to Hotmail.

Only "paid Hotmail accounts" will work correctly with Outlook. If you configured
Outlook Express or Outlook to access your Hotmail account before DAV support was ended,
you may still be able to use Outlook Express to open a free Hotmail account. However,
eventually Hotmail will no longer support DAV for all free Hotmail accounts.

If you want to use Outlook to access your Hotmail account, you must have an MSN subscription.

Another Microsoft PR blunder.....with all the smart people they are supposed
to recruit they still create PR fiascos like this? why not charge $1000 for
Windows OS and include Office etc in it to begin with?

That "idea" would certainly reduce the number of PC sold with Windows
installed. Me thinks "borderline genus" is appropriate. (you might look
up the meaning of genus)
