Will Outlook 2007 & Outlook Connector work on Server 2008 Standard

It would be very nice for me to have Outlook 2007 & Outlook Connector running
on my Server 2008 Standard (x64) machine so I can see my Hotmail messages
there. The Office website does say that Outlook 2007 works with "Server 2003
or later." It sure looks like it’s almost working. Unfortunately, I can’t get
any of my Hotmail messages.

After setting everything up, the server status message I get is:

Time: 10/5/2009 10:34:23 PM
Error in Mail
An unknown error was encountered during a synchronization operation with the
service. Some of the items might not have been synchronized.
998 No extra explanation

Time: 10/5/2009 10:34:31 PM
Error in Calendar
Synchronization error.

My Hotmail contact list is retrieved successfully.

To investigate further, I used an old XP machine running Office 2003. I
installed Outlook Connector there, and set it up to connect to my Hotmail
account. That worked fine. Then I compared the two versions of Outlook with
Wireshark, a packet tracing program.

Office 2003 Outlook connected to 207.46.28.81, and started its HTTP stream
with:

GET /config/msgrconfig.asmx?op=GetOlcConfig&Country=US HTTP/1.1

Outlook 2007 connected to 64.4.60.7, and started its HTTP stream with:

PROPFIND /cgi-bin/hmdata/ HTTP/1.1

Why is OLC using WebDAV at all? Isn’t that wrong? Is there something I have
mis-configured on my Server 2008 machine that makes it do this? Perhaps some
internet security GPO is mucking things up?
