Will Service Pack XP work with Windows 98 and Word 2002?

I was advised by Microsoft to download this and another XP pack after a
malfunction of Word, but the "XP" suggests to me that it is not for Windows
98 version 2.

Probably it was the Office XP service pack you were being advised to
download. Word 2002 is part of Office XP.
