will unistall and reinstalling office lose my current documents?

No. Existing documents are stored separately in your
user account under "Documents and Settings".

It will not delete the documents, but it will eliminate them from the
recently used list.

No, but if the only copy you have is on the hard drive, you are living
dangerously.

To add to the other replies:

- No, you won't lose the current documents, but backing up is _always_ a
good idea.

- Why are you uninstalling and reinstalling Office? It almost never cures
any problems, because it doesn't remove or replace the files and registry
entries where most problems happen. If your trouble is with Word, see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/ProblemsStartingWord.htm.
