Will Windows 7 support filesharing?

Brenna

Is Windows 7 going to support the filesharing in Groove? My laptop had XP and
worked great with Groove. I bought a desktop that came installed with Vista
(64 bit) and like everyone else I cannot fileshare. Help!

Hi Brenna,

Office Groove 2007 will not support Groove File Sharing Spaces on 64 bit
Operating Systems. While I cannot say specifically if it is or is not in
SharePoint Workspace 2010 (the next version of Groove), I can say that it is
being considered for a future release.

More to come on this in the near future.

Hi Gregg,

To my utmost disappointment, and after purchasing several 64 bit machines so
they can actually use the memory that comes with it, I just found out that
filesharing workspaces are not supported on 64 bits. How is this possible? I
reaqlly, really do not get it. Shame on me assuming that a Microsoft product
just works on Microsoft's own operating systems.
I did have a feeling already that MS buying Groove was just a scheme to get
the owner (back) on Microsoft board and it would just be a matter of time
before Groove was to be abandoned. A shame because it is a great product.
As a final straw before we have to start looking for a different solution:
will 64 bit support be included in the next version of Groove? And, if this
information is not available yet, why not?

Incredible...

No 64-bit support for Groove? What an absolute total shocker.

When will Microsoft learn, just when you had a chance to win some of us back
after the nightmare that was Vista, now this!

Extremely dissapointed.

This is socking news. I was planning on upgrading (switching) from XP 32-bit
to Windows 7 64-bit upon its release. Good thing I saw this post before
doing so. It never occurred to me that Groove would not support 64-bit
versions of Windows.

I am extremely annoyed about this. I wonder what else doesn't work on W7 64
bit? Probably time to downgrade to XP. Deja-vu al over again...

How in the world can it happen that file-sharing is not supported in Groove
2007 for Windows 7 64-bit? I am pretty disappointed at the lack of
consideration Microsoft is putting into their products. Microsoft please,
please get a team and fix the problem so that you won't lose us costumers.

I'm scoping out new laptops for my small business. Was fully ready to switch
toWindows 7, but now can not and will not because my consulting team relies
on Groove to share all work files. It was the best sharing solution I found,
and I tried several.

Gregg, I see some laptops advertised with Windows 7 32-bit systems. Will
Groove work on those operating systems, or do I have to take the XP
Professional downgrade to remain Groove compatible??

I agree totally with the sentiments expressed in this thread. I feel totally
burnt here - just upgraded to Windows 7 only to find a core office
application is effectively abandoned, it's completely unacceptable for MS to
release a major system update like this and have an office application
crippled in the process.

I've just updated my primary development PC today, and this was a very
unpleasant and unexpected suprise.

For the message from MS to be wait and see if we condescend to provide you
with a solution later is just not acceptable.

I use W7-32bit and Groove, and it works fine.

Thanks for this info, it may be the way to go for us.

It's been a few months since the last "stay tuned" from Microsoft. Is there
any update on either (1) Groove compatibility for 64 bit Windows release
date, or (2) a Microsoft recommendation for file sharing on 64 bit machines
as an alternative to Groove? Please advise, and thanks.
