Window resizing problem?

S

Steven Day

I just noticed that Word windows cannot be extended to their maximum
vertical size. Even though I drag the lower right hand corner to the bottom
of my display, it always redraws the window just above the bottom. Nothing
major, but rather annoying.

TIA.

What version of OS and Word, and how big is your display? And which View
were you trying to do this in?

No problems with extending the window right to the bottom of the screen on a
15in powerbook Word 2004 (11.1.1), OS 10.3.9, Normal View, with or without
scroll bar and status bar showing.

I'm running 10.4.2 and Office 2004 11.1.1. 17" display on a iMac G5 (the
1.6ghz model). This seems to be something new. I'll try to duplicate it on
my G4 iMac at work.

Thanks.

No problem with Word at work. But the problem still persists on the iMac G5
at home. Strange.

Hi Steven,

I've got an iMac G5 also and I see the same thing. It's because of the
dock! The Word document window will not descend below the top of the dock.
If you reposition the dock to the left side of the screen, you can resize
the Word window all the way to the bottom of the screen. Very interesting.

I don't know why this is or why it only happens on the iMac G5 (if that's
the case). And I don't know if it's the system or Word. I'll see if I can
find out.

I keep my dock on the right, and yes, seeing something similar. I can
resize the Word window to the right only enough to get the vertical scroll
bar under the dock, and no further. But I can drag the entire window
underneath it, no problem.

Hi Gang-

You can also set the Dock prefs to 'Automatically Show & Hide' which will
allow full sizing of the file window.

Yeah, but it drives me crazy when the dock pops up and down all the time
:).

Thanks for all the replies. I, too, keep my dock on the right. My iMac G4
and iMac G5 are basically configured the same. But the problem only occurs
on the latter.

Hi Steven,

I did some more experimenting. I found the same behavior to be true in
other applications that have a conventional document window (like
Dreamweaver, OmniGraffle and TextWrangler). So it's a system thing and if
it really bothers you, you'll need to contact Apple.
