Do you have Word installed on this machine? What if you disable the
Word editor in Outlook - does the Outlook editor work fine?

I am having EXACTLY the same problem in Outlook 2003. I sometimes even have Word open when I get the message!
The only temporary solution is to reboot.
Anyone have an idea on how to address this?

I have the same problem that suddenly, started on 6/30. I suspect that it was
a result of a Microsoft update which I have automatic updates for.
When I searched the web I found a vendor

who say they have a solution that they want to charge for, but I think
Microsoft should provide the solution if they caused it.
