Windows 2002 'not installed for this user'

J

Jimmy

When opening word in xp home I first get the installation
dialog prompting me to install from disc (word is already
installed, and it's an OEM version so I don't HAVE the
disc). After clicking cancel I get error message 1706,
after which I get the '....is not installed for this
user'. I am the only user and I'm not on a network. Word
was working fine 2 days ago, when I last used it.
Any and all help welcomed
Jimmy

Hi Jimmy,

What version of Office are you using? You indicated Windows 2002 but
that doesn't suggest the version of Office you are using. We also need
the full text of the error message since there are various reasons for
encountering a 1706 error.

Additionally, would you mind contacting me by email with details of
who your OEM is, what version of Office was preinstalled, your name,
details, etc?

The OEM is supposed to provide you the installation CD per Microsoft's
requirements and I've recently been looking into this issue. The more
users I can find encountering this problem the better. :) Remove

'kay Beth,
My Office version is 10.0.2609.0 The exact text
of the error message is ; Error 1706. Setup cannot find
the required files. Check your connection to the network,
or CD-ROM drive, For other potential solutions to this
problem, see C;\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10

Hi Jimmy,

Here's a KB article that addresses the problem however you need your
installation media to correct the issue:
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=297834

You should contact your OEM and tell them you need your installation
CDs to correct the issue. Microsoft requires the OEM to supply you
with the CDs.
