Windows 98, Office 2000, Word crashes

Recently a problem has developed such that I can no
longer run Word. It crashes every time.

Excel works fine. Wordpad works fine. All other
applications seem to be OK.
Virus protection is up to date.
I've cleared everything from C:\\windows\temp
I've deleted win386.swp
I've run ScanDisk in MS-DOS mode and the disk does not
appear to be corrupt.
I've installed all of the Office 2000 service packs.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled Office 2000. I've
run 'Detect and Repair' from within Excel.

The problem won't go away.
