Windows in Taskbar Problems

O/S : WinXP-Home Edition (All SP's and SR's installed)

Office Suite : MS OfficeXP (All SP's and Critical Patches
installed)

Problem : Task (window) switching from the taskbar.

When opening several documents in Word 2002 OR several
spreadsheets in Excel 2002 the active document window is
displayed on the desktop and the inactive documents are
minimized to the taskbar.

To move from one document to another I seem to have three
choices. The first choice is to use the "Window" menu
and select the document I want to be the Active
document. This works just fine with no problems.

The second choice is to use the Atl-Tab key combination
which presents a selection box on the desktop containing
a list (icon with text) of all documents open for the
application being used (Word or Excel). From this list
one can cycle through the possibilities and select the
document which should become the Active document. This
also works just fine with no problems.

The last (and easiest choice) is to place the mouse
cursor on the desired, minimized taskbar button and
click. Herein lies the problem. When I click on the
taskbar button representing the minimized document I wish
to activate, focus is momentarily switched to the desired
button (one sees this because the color of the button
changes to indicate a focus acknowledgement) and then
less than 1 second later, switches back to the document
which was active BEFORE clicking on the taskbar button.
In other words, nothing is changed and my application
still has the original, active document within it's
workspace. Strange !!

Even stranger is that it ALWAYS works on the second
attempt. This means that I always have to click the
desired button TWO times with a short interval between
clicks.

Has anyone else ever experienced this problem ?? It
could be that a Registry entry controls this behavior
within MS Office products and it has become corrupt. I
should mention that I used the Office Repair option on
the Install Menu but that didn't solve the problem.
Furthermore, I can attest to the fact that this behavior
only happens when running OfficeXP applications and not
at all for other WinXP apps.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi PhilD!

I get this problem too and sometimes I click more than once and get it
the third attempt and sometimes never although with other files
there's no prob. A mystery I've learned to live with but I'll be
interested in any solutions that don't involve a four pound club
hammer.

Sorry Phil I don't have a solution to your problem.
You do however have yet another possibility to scroll through you active
(Excel) windows with Cntrl & Tab (forward) or Cntr + Shift + Tab
(backwards).
Maybe this makes it somewhat easier to live with it.

BTW in Word you would use Cntr & F6 to scroll through your Word windows
