Windows Installer runs everytime I open an Office program or file

K

katfish1

This started after I installed and then uninstalled a Beta 3 version of
Office 2007. Installer tries to install and configure Office Professional
2003 three times whenever I open an office file or program, even each time I
read an email in OE. I do eventually get the program or file or email opened.
Help please! Its driving me batty.

First, there is no Office 2007 Beta 3 yet.

Second, try the Windows Installer Cleanup utility.

That could explain some problems with Outlook Express but...?

I'm using Office 2007 B2TR and am experiencing the same problem and more!

Not only does WI start whenever opening an Office application but does so
for any application or for instance, when I clicked on reply here to open
this dialog window! MS TS is advising me to uninstall 2007.

I've used WICU and every other 'trick in the book' posted in multiple
discussion groups here, all to no avail. So, I guess I'll follow MS's advice
and uninstall 2007 as they believe it's a corrupted registry pointer.

Do you also have another version of Office installed? If so, it may be that
the recent Office updates are causing the problem. Off-hand, I believe the
resolution is to run the Office diagnostics in 2007.

As I alluded to below, I've been working with MS TS on this issue.

After uninstalling Office 2007 then cleaning up the install with WICU, the
offending WI dialogs disappeared. Further, I then reinstalled Office 2007
along with the B2TR & I am to date still not experiencing rampant WI dialog
'popups'.

My only conclusion is that there must have been a corrupted registry
pointer. I now know what to do if the WI issue reappears. The MS TS
representative I spoke with noted that in her 4 years there, the only time
she has seen this aberrant WI behavior was a corrupt registry pointer in
Office regardless of the version. She readily admitted that they do not know
what causes the issue.

Obviously I didn't catch that. Had I, I probably wouldn't have bothered to
respond.
