windows installer starts unexpectedly

When I start excel 2003 (only excel) windows installer starts along with it.
How can I avoid this, when prompted for my
office disk I insert it but installer references the disk
it stops running till I restart excel. Excel runs fine, along with all other
office products, installer only runs when excel is opened.

i get the same problem after i installed office updates i have unistalled the
updates but still get this problem. i had the same problem many years ago the
solution was simple but i can't rember it. i am sure it was something to do
with a spell checker
