The Calendar in Windows 7 does not seem to have an alert function for
calendar events.
The Calendar in Windows vista had an alert to calendar events.

What have I missed?

I believe that live mail syncs with live toolbar. So you will get you
notifications from the toolbar if you installed it

Suggest you explore Windows Live Mail Help for Windows 7. For example here
is one Help reference:

"If you have a Windows Live ID (The e-mail address and password that you
use to sign in to Windows Live programs and services such as Windows Live
Hotmail and Windows Live Messenger; Microsoft services such as Xbox LIVE,
MSN, and Office Live; and anywhere else that you see the Windows Live ID
logo.) , Windows Live Mail can send you reminders (A scheduled message that
Windows Live Mail sends to you to remind you that an event in your calendar
is about to occur. Reminders can be sent to your e-mail account, to your
Windows Live Messenger account, or to your cell phone. You can change how
reminders are delivered on the Windows Live Calendar website.) before each
event starts to make sure that you never miss an event. You can create
calendars and events whether you're signed in to Mail or not."

That is interesting.
I wish it would be a lot easier than that. It was very in easy in Vista and
very complicated in Windows 7.

How is New Event-{click on the Reminder} button complicated?

The live Calendar sends an email notification. I am looking for the popup
notification that we had in Vista.

I don't think the email notification is a good replacement for the popup
notification we had in Vista.
I am still looking for the real thing.

I get it now. The only notification you get is an email, messenger message or
cellphone call.
The notification we had in Vista is gone.
I am dissapointed.

The professional geeks I know at least know how to read. Explains the fact
you're unemployed. Again, you're posting this in the OFFICE newsgroup.
