I have Windows ME (unfortunately), and reapeatedly have to reinstall my Word
2000. When I attempt a repair, after approximately 15 minutes of
"configuring", I receive an "internal error 2349". Can anyone help me,
please?

You can try cleaning the CD with cool water and a mild detergent. Dry
with a clean, lint-free, soft cloth. The basic problem is trhat the
player is failing to read some portion of the disc. If possible, try a
different CD device.

Some have been able to copy the disk contents to a directory on the HD
and install it from there. The copy process apparently is more
fault-recovery-capable than the installer seems to be.
