Windows media player music export into access database

Hi there,

I have downloaded a plug-in for windows media player from Microsift
which allows me to export my music library to a text file which I can
then import into access. What I would like to do is generate a report
that lists all the Albums I have grouped under the Artist heading. The
problem that I have is that the album appears as many times in my
report under the Artist heading as there are tracks on the album. This
is as there is a record for each track and therefore it shoes multiple
times in the report. Please can anybody tell me if there is a way that
I can get the Album name just to show once under the Artsit header and
then move onto the next album?

Many many thanks in advance.

Look up "sorting and grouping" in your report design. You can move
the Album and Artist information up into header sections so that they
don't repeat for tracks. You can also put nothing into the Detail
section if you want no Tracks to appear in your report.

Hope this gets you started,

This doesn't seem to work unless I am doing something wrong? I have
grouped on Artist and then on Album and hidden the details section.
This way I just get a list of Artists. I then moved the album text box
to the Album group and then I only get one album where I may have
several for that Artist. Any more suggestions please?

Thanks again

Double check that you have Artists and Albums on separate sorting and
grouping lines, with headers checkmarked for both. Then put the
ArtistName text field in the Artists header section, and the AlbumName
text field in the Albums header section.

Another way to check is to move the text fields down into the Details
section just for testing. You should see the duplicates there.

Also open the table or query that the report is using and make sure
that the Artist Names are exactly the same across multiple Albums. You
can even run a Totals query with some Group By fields to check this.

Yes it was the group header that I didn't have. Works great now.
Thanks for your help. Gary
