Windows Server - Entourage 2004 Certificate problem - witsend.....please, please help!

Hi Guys,

I am new here and also not very experience in supporting Macs, my new
position requires me to look after a few Macs on our network. We
recently had an upgrade to Windows SBS 2008 (had a company come in and
do it) and had all our Macs configured and connected to the network by
our so called "Mac" guys, another external company.

Eventually they got it all working , and Entourage is sending and
receiving mail. This issue that everytime the guys open Entourage they
get this message popping up:

"Unable to establish a secure connection to corporateserver.prm.local
because the correct root certificate is not installed"

The guys can click ok to continue, the message pops ups few more times
and then again when they click to compose or reply to a message,
clicking continue works fine and everything is OK, but its an annoying
hindrance that should not happen.

The Macs were recently upgraded to OSX 10.5.7 and are running Office
2004.

The guys that did our upgarde (Windows guys) and our Mac guys cannot
reslove this, the Windows guys are adimant that the correct cert from
the server has been installed and the Mac guys are convinced they have
configured Entourage properly (although I am scepitical of this as
they have little experinece of cross platfrom Windows server
environments!). My Windows guys have even raised this with Microsoft
who came back with a response of, the certificate is correct, the
proceedure is correct..so see your Mac guys!! Great!!

Can anybody she some light or assist me with trying to rectify this,
my users won't let it go!

More info on current config can be supplied.

Please, please help.

Thanks in advance.

Unless this is a new problem in SBS 2008 that I'm not aware of, your
problem is that you're using a self-signed certificate.

Your Mac has a list of root certificates that Apple provides and updates
periodically. When you visit a website or connect to any other service
secured using SSL then these root certificates are accessed to verify
the authenticity of the organization that provided the SSL certificate.

You need to get the root certificate from your server and install it on
your Macs or you need to explicitly trust your self-signed certificate.

Try this:

Using Safari on one of your Macs, connect to the same address you're
using in Entourage. Log in with any user's account.

You should receive a certificate message here as well. See if you have
the option to "trust" this certificate going forward. If so, trust the
certificate. Test Entourage.

If that doesn't work then click the little "lock" icon in Safari that
represents the secure connection. In Safari, this is in the upper right
corner. This will display the SSL certificate. Twiddle open the Details
disclosure triangle. Look for a link in those details that will allow
you to download the root certificate. I believe the file will end in
..crl. Once downloaded, you can double-click it to add it to your Keychain.

Once this root certificate is installed, try Entourage again.

Hope this helps!
