windows update disagress with office update (admin install patches office 03)

I manage a number of ws03 terminal server and xppro sp2 workstations which
are connected to an office 2003 administrative installation point which is
patched regularly.

The "new" windows update appears to want to install all the post sp3 office
patches, even though the office update site confirms the machine is up to
date.

any ideas?
