I bought a new computer with Windows Vista with no Office Software because I
already have it from prior computers.

I installed Office 97 Small Business Software and no problems but when
upgrading to Office 2000 Product the set-up hangs and not sure what to do and
I get no where.

Can someone help so I can continue my upgrade process and tell what I ned to
change so the upgrade set-up will run?

It is not neccessary to install the qualifying app in order to use the
upgrade.
At what exact point does it hang?

Right after is says is will remove the (4) 1997 programs and you hit enter.
The disk runs and the computer acts like it is working for a little while but
no bars ever start on the window on the screen and the computer goes quiet
after a short period and thats it.

You can't even cancel the upgrade without shutting down.

Try Custom Install and use a version specific folder, eg \ProgramFiles\MS
Office\Office2k
Do not select upgrade or remove earlier version

Or uninstall O97, install Office2k, when it complains about qualifying app,
insert O97 cd and point to it, once excepted replace with O2k cd and
continue installation.

I tried both options:

Option 1 of using Office 2K folder hung the disk agian.

Option 2 I could not install Office 97 Products. I tried to use Add remove
Products and chose Excel 97 and it asked for CD1 which I put in but the disk
would not run fully and hung as well.

There must be a simple way to do this.

Whats funny is that my New Dell came with a Shorts Cuts for Office 2003
components and if you click them then you have to enter Product Key. I
didn;t order to 2003 obviously.

Not sure what to do. Where do I go from here, frustrating.

All I want to do it get rid of 97 components and get machine upgraded to
office 2003 using my upgrade versions.

I finally just did a restore to the day I got the computer and then used the
2000 Small Business Disks and it worked from there. I guess the 97 stuff is
too out of date to work as it should.

Any way

Thanks
