windows vista office install problem

i am running vista ultimate 32 oem. i loaded office 97 pro. with no problem
then tried to upgrade it to office 2003 pro (upgrade ver) but setup would
freeze after entering serial number, after numerous attempts to install
office 03 with same results, i attempted to
remove office 97 and that freezes to. any ideas would be greatly
appreciated. brian b.

You don't need to install the upgrade-qualifying product (in this case
Office 97) in order to install an upgrade version of office 2003 - all you
need is the CD to hand to insert when asked.
You might be as well to restore your machine to factory settings and begin
again...
