windows xp home installation fails

I am trying to install WindowsXP Home edition and each time I get to the
point that I can choose the option to install (ie. press 'Enter'), the
computer shuts down. Sometimes, I get past this stage but the end result is
always the same.

I am almost certain that it is not my hardware because I dont' get this
problem when I boot with another CD to reformat my disk.
