Windows XP Missing Files

Quick question about Windows XP. A number of us at work share a computer.
Recently, it was discovered that Windows Professional Office Suit was
totally corrupt, so I needed to re-install the entire program again after
deleting the original corrupt application. However, now some private files
and folders are missing. Some claim this cannot be, unless someone make a
conscious effort to purposely delete them. Is this true, or can indeed such
files and folders possibly be eliminate, especially if associated to Windows
Office Suit when that was deleted, then reinstalled?

Thanks,
John Sisker

Generally it is true but some viruses can also delete the data. That is
the sole purpose of writing viruses - to disrupt your day to day
function by deleting your files and folders.

Before you installed, I guess you did perform a through scan of the
system with the latest virus signature files.

Also it is also prudent and imperative that you back up your data\files before doing something like that
