Windows XP - secondary drives disappear & reappear on reboot

I have a PC with several drives in it.

Every now and then one or more of my disk drives just disappears and I
cannot see in in Windows Explorer and in Device Manager, and under Disk
Management in Storage Manager....

I first thought it was a problem with one of the drives which is a Maxtor
drive but now since a Seagate drive is also disappearing I am thinking it
might be a Windows XP or hardware problem.

Any suggestions on how to trouble shoot this problem, or suggestions on what
this could be?

You've posted to an outlook group, should have been one of the winxp groups;

Check; Event Viewer & Cables/connections
