Windows XP SP2 is Blocking MS Access Application on the Network

F

Frank Barrena

After installing Service Pack 2 for Windows XP I cannot open an Access
database located in another computer from my network.

When trying to open, first appears a security warning stating "While files
from the internet can be useful, this file type can potentially harm your
computer. If you do not trust the source, do not open the software".
Then I click Open and Access displays another message saying that the file
is located outside the intranet or in an untrusted site. So Acces does not
open the file.

The computer is in my network, I have disabled the firewall and there is no
change. This is causing one of the main Access features to fail: the ability
to share an application on the network.

Please help.

From a post by Rick Brandt just recently:

"If he/she has Service Pack 2 for Windows XP installed it "Blocks" all
executable files that come from other systems whether that be Email or being
dragged from the network. You have to right-click on the file, view the
properties, and press the [Unblock] button in the lower right. Then the
file will work."

See the following link:
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=883260

And some information from MVP Ken Snell:"It also appears to be superficially discussed in Windows XP Help. Open Help
from Windows Explorer and search on the keyword
attachment

It will display a few topics about email attachments and how to unblock via
the file icon."
Other possible causes:

You receive an error message when you try to open an Access 2002
database from a Web Server:

Intranet site is identified as an Internet site when you use an FQDN
or an IP address:
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=303650

My first guess would be the blocking of executable files.
Try that first.
