WinFax 10.03 Integration Problems Oulook 2K (WinXP) Sub Folder Contacts Again

After Reading Ken Slovak's many post about getting WinFax 10.02 (and now
10.03) to Integrate with Outlook 2000 before upgrading to Outlook 2002, I
have performed the following on a new computer, and Integration still does
not work:

Windows XP (SP1) New Computer (Office not previously Installed)

1) Installed Outlook 2000 from single application Disk (Not Office 2000)
Workgroup Mode.

2) Patched Outlook 2000 up to SP2

3) Copied a PST from Another Windows XP Pro (originated from Office 2002) in
Outlook PST Folder.

4) Outlook Contact Folders were all set to "Show this folder as an e-mail
address Book"

5) Installed WinFax 10.03, and configured it to use Outlook 2000 as an
Integrated Phonebook.

Upon rebooting I can only see Root Contact Folder and not the sub folders.

I Uninstalled WinFax 10.03, and did a system Restore prior to WinFax Install
(Outlook has to be repaired at this Point) to reset the registry and
attempted installing my WinFax 10.02.

Even 10.02 Won't show my Contact Sub Folders. I have Outlook 2000 and
WinFax 10.02 integrated on an older Windows ME (Small laptop drive I no
longer use), but I cannot seem to get this to link to sub folders in XP Pro.

Is there a step I'm forgetting (since it has been quite a spell since I
integrated this on my older ME drive)?

Do I need to Install the entire Office 2000 Suite to obtain Outlook
integration?

Okay, since it works on my ME Drive, I remembered Outlook was set for IMO.

Ken and others have stated to get it working in CW mode.

Just for the heck of it I switched to IMO and now I can see all of my
contact Sub Folders.

What can I do to get it to show in CW so I can upgrade to Outlook 2002, and
have this work?

When I Switch back, the Contacts in sub folders don't show up just the Root
Contact folder.

The first time you launch Winfax, it should have asked you
to link applications (ie: Oulook, Outlook Express). If
you are not getting this window. I would suggest removing
Winfax 10.02 and using 10.0. I have had issues with
Winfax 10.01 and 10.02.

I've never tried any integration with 10.03, the latest version I use is
10.02.

One thing comes to mind, do you have the proper entries in the MAPISvc.inf
file? There's an article on what you need in that at
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...080c0cf?OpenDocument&src=tr&Highlight=0,mapis

When everything is set up correctly and Outlook/Exchange integration is
enabled I can see not only every mailbox folder that is enabled as an
Outlook Address Book but also Exchange public folders set up that way.
However, I usually do not enable the Outlook/Exchange integration because
with 10.02 at least if you try to view the WinFax log files in Outlook that
crashes Outlook.

Greetings Ken:

I have an older drive (Windows ME) which contains WinFax 10.02 and Office
2000.

Since I don't use it anymore I am using it as a Test Bed to find a
resolution to this problem. It was originally linked with WinFax 10.02
running in IMO so I decided to change it to CW mode, and it did the exact
same thing. The contact sub folders disappeared, with only the ROOT folder
showing up.

I set each folder to "Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book" in the
Properties, after switching to CW mode (since they were all cleared).

I found the link below from your article about mapisvc.inf (
www.slipstick.com) and that generated the Logs as advertised, but still no
joy seeing contact sub-folders in CW mode. If I switch back to IMO mode,
all sub folders are again visible. By the way, I found two mapisvc.inf
files, if that provides any clues.

The DCCExtensions are installed, and Outlook 2000 is Linked in WinFax 10.02
Program setup (Enable Sending Faxes by Email).

It is strange that I can't view the contact sub folder in CW (I remember it
worked in OL98 and TalkWorks 3 aka. WF9.03).

These two installations (My new XP OL2K & WFX10.03 and old ME OL2K w/
WFX10.02 both act the same IMO versus CW). Any other ideas? I have held
off installing software (mainly Office XP) until I get this working since I
fax from my Cell Phone a great deal.

Thanks Ken for chiming in, I recalled our discussion 2 years ago when I
first tried this, hence I ordered my Laptop with no office package so I
could get this integration working in CW as you have detailed many times.

Yes, it did detect Outlook 2000 and asked to link, which I answered yes.

I don't have version 10, only 10.02 (upgraded from TalkWorks 3.0) and now
10.03.

It would seem that I must be close getting it to Link in IMO, but I have
been told it must work in CW mode before upgrading Outlook 2000 to Outlook
XP, or it will never link (since OL2002 has no IMO mode).

This is holding up configuring my laptop, especially when I know Ken and
others have succeeded in Linking 10.02 Contact Sub folders in Outlook 2002
after upgrade OL2k successfully linked with WinFax 10.02 in CW mode.

Any more ideas or suggestions?

-Bob

PS: The logs are visible because of manually updating mapisvc.inf for
WinFax.

To tell you the truth, it's been so long since I integrated WinFax with
Outlook that it's all a distant memory for me now.

I could only suggest trying one of the suggestions on
http://www.slipstick.com/addins/utilities/winfax9.htm, which is reinstalling
WinFax over itself after you've made the change from IMO to C/W and seeing
if that helps.

The normal location for your mapisvc.inf file would be at C:\Program
Files\Common Files\System\Mapi\1033\NT\. If you are using a language other
than US English that 1033 would be your local language code.

Often there's another mapisvc.inf file located at C:\WINNT\System32\ but
that one isn't used by Outlook or by WinFax, so any changes you make to your
inf file should be made to the first one I mentioned.

Unfortunately, even with its flaws and bugs, WinFax was in my opinion the
best fax software for use with Outlook but Symantec decided not to continue
with it. After the 10.02 beta most of the old Delrina staff that owned
WinFax was let go and the company made a strategic decision to concentrate
its resources on security products, so upgrades just aren't there.

I'm sorry I couldn't help you more.

Well I finally got Outlook (CW) 2000 Contacts Linked into WinFax, but when I
installed Office XP it was a disaster (as far as winfax was concerned). It
would crash every time I attempted to open the Outlook/Exchange Contact
Subfolder. Thank goodness I did this on my test bed disk.

Since upgrade to Office XP is now a disaster, I used the same techniques to
Link Outlook contacts into WinFax on my desktop and it worked!

I uninstalled Outlook 2000 on my new notebook and used System Restore to
restore system prior to Outlook (and WinFax) install.

Since I was able to link my desktop (which I failed to accomplish a year ago
when I purchased it) without Outlook 2000, I installed Office XP Clean on
the laptop, then WinFax 10.03, edited mapisvc.inf to add logs. Used WinFax
to enable "Send Faxes by email", selected outlook/exchange and checked "Use
Outlook Contacts in WinFax".......

All works (first time in two years), but what a waste of time..........

As always Ken thank you for your help!

And of Course WinFax users who have linked to Outlook 2002 shall avoid XP
Service Pack 2 (It figures).
