Winword AND GDI.exe

I have received and error message reading:
"Winword has caused an Invalid APge Fault in module
GDI.Exe". I had recently installed Office 2000 and had
successfully opened Microsoft Word. I closed it and went
to another program, closed it out and came back to Word.
When I tried to open it the above error message came up.
I am running Windows Millenium Edition.
Now the computer freezes up and I have to reboot to
continue.

Please help!!!!!!!
