I'm using Office 2000sp3 on Win2000sp4 - I have no real reason to upgrade.

I was working on a document that had been mail merged on another computer to an
Excel spreadsheet. As the spreadsheet wasn't on the computer I was using I just
disabled the merging with a view to re-enabling it later.

I had completed all of the editing and save the word doc and closed the file. I
wanted to double-check something in the word doc so I double-clicked it to open and
I got the error message:-

Winword.exe has create an error and will be shut down. Logs are being written.

I've tried a repair install of Office 2000 with no difference

I've uninstalled Office 2000 and reinstalled with all service packs with no
difference.

I can start other applications in Office, it's just Winword.exe that won't play
ball.

I'd like to tell you what the Logs say, but I don't know where they are being
written to.

I have previously had Autodesk Vault installed on my machine, which includes a
plug-in and toolbar for Word and sits on either MSDE or SQL 2005 Express.

Before jumping to the conclusion that Adsk Vault is to blame, I had uninstalled it a
couple of days previously and had used Word with no problems, further the
re-installation of Office 2000 should have resolved any problems.

Does anybody have any suggestions or comments ?

TIA
