WINWORD.EXE stays resident, won't exit

After I exit Word, WINWORD.EXE does not exit. It hangs around, gobbling 20
MB of working set.
Is it supposed to do that?
Can I tell it really to go away when I tell it to go away?

I am Windows XP Home SP2, Word 2003

Do you use Word as you editor for Outlook? If so, then that's probably why
it's staying loaded.
