wmv files in PowerPoint

Alan Morrin

Hi, I'd be grateful for some advice.

I'm unable to get wmv files, that I've created in Photo Story 3, to run
inside PowerPoint. I've downloaded PFCMedia plus the required files, as
recommended in an earlier thread, and used it to insert the files but they
still don't run when inserted into PowerPoint although they run perfectly in
PFCMedia when I run the test.

The files seem OK because they run perfectly in Windows Media Player on the
desktop. I'm running XP Home with SP2 and PowerPoint 2002.

Any advice would be much appreciated as I've got a group of pupils working
on an end of term presentation.

Regards,
Alan Morrin

Alan,
Any chance you can share a copy of the video? I would very much like to
look at it's internals. If you are willing, just send it in a reply email.

Hopefully Austin will pop in, but until then, please do this as a test --

Go to Start/Run and type mplay32.exe Do your WMV files play in that media
player (the MCI Media Player)?

Also, thanks for mentioning your version of PPT and Windows. That's almost
always helpful information for us.

LOL! And it turns out I posted this after Austin posted. (Guess the posts
are just slow to show up here today!)

Hi Echo and thanks for the help. Austin is being very helpful although not
successful.

No the wmv files created in Photo Story 3 won't run properly in the MCI
Media Player only the last couple of seconds plays.

Alan

Well, the rule of thumb is usually if the file won't play in the MCI Media
Player, they're not gonna play in PPT. So maybe let's work towards that.

I'd be surprised if Photo Story 3 uses an incompatible codec (well, maybe I
wouldn't be surprised -- left-hand/right-hand at MS isn't always the best
<g>), so let's start with making sure your MCI registry entries match the
screenshots at
