Won't accept password to download updates

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: intel

I am not able to download recent updates because it requires a password. When I type it in it is not accepted. I know I am using the correct password. There does not seem to be any option to reset the password as is available in many other programs.

Is this the Apple Software updater? There are no passwords required to
download any Microsoft updates. Apple Software Updater uses your User's
password.
