Word 07 formatting updates following para

L

Louise T

I've been using Word 07 quite happily for several weeks, but today have had
problems with a particular doc. Applying formatting to a para automatically
applies it to the next. I am not doing anything differently and the styles I
am using are the same ones as I've been using on about 30 previous similar
docs. I have tried changing the 'style for following para' format to no
avail.
The only thing that breaks the link is if I delete any para breaks between
the text and then put the para breaks back in. It then allows me to format
each para differently. This as you can imagine is a pain, and I don't
understand why this has happened in this doc. It has never happened before. i
can't see anything in the para formatting window either to explain it. Not
even page breaks break the link - I have to delete them and then put them in
again, and then I can format the text differently.

Any ideas?
Thanks

Hello Louise,

It looks like "Automatically update styles" has been triggered. However, I
can't tell you how to check because we use Macs in here. ;-)

You've landed in a discussion group for users of Mac versions of Word. Mac
versions differ variously from PC versions. Although several people here use
both PCs and Macs and may give you a more specific answer soon, it's likely
that more people in a PC group have experienced your specific problem.
Here's where all the groups are listed:

Thanks for that - I didn't know where it was going to end up! Have now found
the right group.
