WORD 12 not saving my changes

Here is a description of 2 recent Word 12 problems:

1) I change the font from Times New Roman to Courier New within a
column in a table that has one column Courier New, and the other
column Times New Roman. Then I click "Save"

I continue working in the document for some time (through several fast-
saves set at 2 minutes).

When I glance at the text I had changed, it's back to Times New Roman.

This has been ongoing now for weeks.

2) More recently I began to notice:

When I open a document to which I had made definite changes (that same
day, the day before, or several days before) my changes had not been
saved.

I have a habit of clicking "Save" repeatedly as I work. I also have
fast-saves set at 2 minutes.

"do you want to save changes" dialogue also works just fine when I
close Word.

Here are the things I've tried:

I ran Repair from the Office 12 disk.

I have an OldNormal.dotm, and I replaced the Normal.dotm several
times. (I noticed a new 1 Normal.dotm" in the folder recently - don't
know what it is, but I deleted it as well)

I deleted Adobe Elements and have Norton Word functions disabled.

What else can I do?

thank you,
Diana

FastSaves in Word 2007? It was removed from the Word 2007 because it has
always been broken.

Are you working from your local hard disk or are working over a network or
from some removable media?

In your template folder there should be just one normal.dotm and one
normalemail.dotm. Delete any other 'normal' template in that location.

I have had the exact same thing (#2 above) happen to me several times now. My
daughter has lost school reports on two occasions because Word 2007 in not
saving the changes. If you use CTRL+S and then close the document there is no
prompt asking you to save your changes so the system thinks that the document
is up to date. However, when the document is opened the changes are not
saved.
