Word 200/Windows 2000 hangs opening/saving to mapped drive on 2000 Server

David Hogan

Had to uninstall, clean out registry, reinstall Office. Applied service
packs. Now Word can't open or save to mapped network drive on 2000 server.
It just stops responding, can't even stop the service. Can't quickly find
anything on Technet. Any ideas?

Hi David,

Firstly do you have any of the following?
McAfee NetShield 4.5 or Computer Associates Inoculan and the ArcServe Open
File Agent

If you do check out the following

821246 Office Files Are Slow to Open, Close, Save, or Print from a Network
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=821246

Also what version of Office & Service Pack are you using along with the
version of Windows?

No. Norton Corporate AV and Trend Micro AV and Tapeware. I'm not aware that
these have any problems.

Windows 2000 with SP4, Office 2000 with SP3.

Hi David

Try stopping all Services in relation to Norton, Trend Micro & TapeWare
temporarily and retry.

Btw: Do you see anything in the Application Event Log when you try to save?
Can you save to other mapped drives or via UNC - \\servername\sharename

Is the server you are saving to a Win2k Server?
