Word 2000 - changing the background colour of the table of contents

Hi there,

I've created an 11-page report, with a table of contents in the
beginning.

On the screen, it shows as a dark grey background with black text on
it. I know how to change the colour of the text, but I can't figure
out how to change the background colour to white to match the rest of
the report.

Is there a way to do this?

It has a grey background because it's a field (TOC field). The background
won't print, but you don't have to look at it if you don't want to. On the
View tab, change the field shading option to Never or When selected.
