I have "Word 2000" (as part of "Office Professional 2000"
(9.0.6926 SP-3)).
I have a PC Pentium 3 r_unning Win98SE. I also
have "Norton Internet Security 2001" (with "Norton
AntiVirus 2001") and I also run : "AdAware
6.181", "SpywareBlaster 3.2" and "SpybotS&D 1.3".
When I attempted to open in Word 2000 documents which I
had previously created, Word opened them in a corrupted
state, but sometimes it was possible to close Word and
open the affected docum_ents fine so long as they had
not been saved when "displayed wrong".
More specifically, in the affected documents, Word removed
formating and put extracts from the documents "Properties"
within the document, placed at the end.
Strange things were present, like repeated characters or
spaces seen in the middle of the document.
I also noticed that in Tools/Options.../View: Show - Here
three items were checked (that are not normally checked),
which were: "Bookmarks", "QuickInfo"and "Field Codes".
It seemed as if the Field Codes were no longer being_
recognised and were being treated like ordinary text (as
if the Field Codes had been entered from the keyboard,
which they had not).
I carried out a virus check which proved clear.
SpybotS&D found two items, but removing those items and
rebooting did not resolve this issue.
The following paragraph is an example of some of
the "corruption" placed into one of the affected documents
by "Word":

What would have caused the above difficulties and how can
they be put right should they occur again?
