At our company we get an automaticly generated RTF-document from one of our
transporters. We fail to open this document. Instead of showing all tables it
opens as plain text which makes it unreadable with all the sources shown as
plain text.
When I mark the checkbox "Confirm conversion at Open" (under
Toold-Options-general) and then try to open the RTF-file it gives me the
notification that I either need to check Permissions on file or drive or
use the file Open dialog box to locate the document.
It can't be any permissions set wrong because it can't be opened either by
users, domain admin or local admin. The second advice gives me the same
problems.
According to the transporter we're the only one with this problem out of
about 70 customers they have, all with mixed Office versions ofcourse.
Our Office-version is 9.0.6926 SP-3, the document generated is done with
Office-version 9.0.28.
I tried opening the file back at home with office XP and it worked fine,
saving it and then sending back to work, the file could be opened, although
layout was not as it should be. Another colleague of mine did the same, only
he uses Office 2000 at home and he didn't get any problems either
Opening with freeware-tool RTFviewer (current workaround) worked fine,
giving the perfect layout as intended. So the file aint corrupt or anything.
Things I can imagine which could cause this:
1. We're pretty much up to date with patching. Maybe one of the latter
patches causes this?
2. Maybe we miss a font which the document wants to use? (under
investigation)
3. Conflict with other applications used standardwide at out company?
4. Registry error?
I'm getting pretty much clueless about it and bussiness here is wanting me
to get the problem solved fast as the document is a daily rapportage of work
done by the transporter for us.
So any help or lead is much appreciated
